A single lovely illustration proves nothing: a 24-page book needs the same character to survive 24 poses. The ranking will judge consistency across spreads, not the sample.
Four things worth settling first
None of these need us to have tested anything. They are the questions that decide whether the thing you get back is usable, and they are all cheaper to ask now than to argue about later.
- 1Ask for the same character drawn twice in different poses before ordering. One pretty sample proves nothing.
- 2Confirm page count, spread count, and whether text placement is included.
- 3Agree print resolution and CMYK conversion up front — RGB art looks wrong on paper and it is late to find out.
- 4Get copyright assignment in writing. Illustration is the category where this most often is not assumed.
